| Guest Speaker: Jimmy
Creech |
"When
I stepped off the curb to walk in my
first Gay Pride Parade, I knew there
was no going back," says Jimmy
Creech, one of the pioneering forces
in the battle for marriage equality.
And he was right. In 1997 after performing
a covenant ceremony for two women,
this heroic straight ally of the GLBT
community lost his post as Senior Pastor
of the First United Methodist Church
in Omaha. Two years later, Creech celebrated
the holy union of two men
in North Carolina and was finally stripped
of his credentials by the United Methodist
Church.
Jimmy Creech is now Chairperson
of the Board of Directors of Soulforce,
Inc., an interfaith organization founded
by Mel White and Gary Nixon. Soulforce
advocates peaceful solutions to
the spiritual violence perpetrated against GLBT
persons by religious institutions in
America. One of its upcoming events
is a mass protest against Colorado Springs-based
Focus on the Family. Join us for
the most inspirational Monsoon ever
as Jimmy Creech explains how we will
wrestle the "moral values"
issue from the religious far-right and
reclaim our country for all Americans.
