Deirdre N. McCloskey
Friday, November 15, 2002, the sensational 7th annual Monsoon dinner and auction was held to benefit the GLBT communities of Boulder County and their allies. With keynote speaker Deirdre N. McCloskey, Distinguished Professor, University of Illinois at Chicago, and Author of "Crossing: A Memoir" speaking on "Deirdre After Crossing: The Normal Life of a Former Guy."

Featured speaker Deirdre McCloskey was "Donald" until 1995. A Harvard graduate -- she wishes it was Radcliffe -- she was tenured in economics and history at the University of Chicago, and taught for 19 years at the University of Iowa. She is now a University of Illinois at Chicago Distinguished Professor of Economics, History and English. She has written a dozen books and about 200 articles on economics, history, philosophy, statistical theory, literary criticism, and gender studies. Her book "Crossing" was a New York Times Notable Book in 1999. She describes herself as a postmodern, quantitative, free-market, feminist, Episcopalian, Midwestern, gendercrossing, literary woman.

A live and silent auction, special speaker and a memorable feast were among the highlights of this benefit for The Open Door Fund. Monsoon 2002 raised more money than any previous year. Thanks to all who supported us!
